Ei Niš used to produce top electronics and microelectronics appliances, including TV and radio receivers, video recorders, music players, phones, military optical equipment, semiconductors, home appliances, electricity meters, X-rays, and other medical devices and tools. The company had a research, development, and design center, and its products were exported to many countries in Europe, Russia, Asia, and Africa.
The Electronic Industry Niš had facilities all over former Yugoslavia and employed 28000 workers. The industry started to collapse in 1991 due to political sanctions imposed upon the country. Ei Niš facilities cover 65 hectares, and most of them are now ruined and abandoned, giving the area an apocalyptic appearance. Some of the factory halls are rented and used by small private enterprises, including a wedding company, tailoring services, and studios of an art academy.
The stark contrast between the former and current use of this space creates some absurd situations.
