“Chrysalis” was created as a performative video installation to metaphorically represent human existence. The chrysalis, in which the worm undergoes transformation into a butterfly, is depicted as transparent, symbolizing transparency in all visual elements of the video. The layers representing the chrysalis’s transformation pulsate in an imaginary temporal current. The expressive waving movement of the woman’s body adds to the tragic element of human existence. Each frame of the video work could stand alone as an independent artistic image. A segment of the musical piece “Dahovi”-The Breath(s), by contemporary composer Ivo Malec was used as the background sound.
“Chrysalis” initially aimed to illustrate human existence through a narrative but evolved into a technological exploration of visual computer programs in the creative process.
